12 reasons not to go skiing as a couple
Wednesday, 29 February 2012 00:00

Do you know many girls who are feeling pretty with a runny nose?
Do you think he looks beautiful with its green cap and his skiing mask?
Your phobia is to take the chair lift and having him seeing your butt pressed against it...
At some point you will fall, finishing with snow in the eyes and lose your dignity.
You start thinking about the woman from the travel agency who advised you to go to Cuba cause it’s "way nicer for a couple" when you thought she just wanted to sell a more expensive trip. Error.
There has never been in the history of cinema a great romance from skiing. Except “Dumb and Dumber”...
Skiing is not conducive to sex. With this cold you don’t feel very hot...
He wants you looking at him making ridiculous small jumps all the time. Which makes you feel as if you were the mother and that was the day of the year end show.
When he removes his shoes at the en of the day you really love him less...
Kiss a guy who has chapped lips is a bit like kissing a sponge...
And above all keep in mind that the couple pictured on the “Aspen brochure” does smile because they are happy but because they are getting payed for that.

Plastron Necklace
Tuesday, 28 February 2012 00:00

The more we see it, the better it is. Exit the extra long necklace or the mini gold chain, the plastron is in the pole position of jewelry trends. Wear it very very very very close to the neck. This “dog collar” democratize with humor the fine jewelry. If gold has a lot of success to warm your outfits, silver can also do the trick for those who fear an excess of “bling”. Of course we can wear it at work on an over sized knit sweater or round neck t-shirt.

The stylist advise: It shines a lot already so let it shine by itself, no earrings or bracelets.

Hairstyles inspired by the catwalk
Monday, 27 February 2012 00:00

On long hair

Bobbed hair
The asymmetry is ideal to create an imbalanced style. In practice, the ultra strict buns and ponytails are jostled by a large lock of hair plastered on the forehead. You prefer leave your hair loose? Bring them on one side like Jerry Hall, a hairstyle that many have adopted throughout the summer.

The fasteners
The low ponytail at the nape of the neck or upper like a "pony" is performed on a woved and smoothed hair. As for the buns, they are still on: dancer style, bananas, braided... Take advantage of the trend, have fun cause it will not last.

Parted in the middle
Very marked it gives the hair a free spirit who are good either with straight hair or loops.

The spirit of 40's
Totally in a retro/glam style with a hair done / not done finely worked or crimped locks. The idea: to play as if you were a movie star, no complex.

On short hair

Bobbed hair
As long as its wild just above the shoulders... and especially not layered. Two absolute references: Nastassja Kinski by the time of "Paris Texas" and Keira Knightley nowadays.

The real short
We love the boyish spirit of ultra-short nape of necks, feminized by long locks on the forehead or a small bangs on the side.

Campaign for a bald Barbie
Friday, 24 February 2012 00:00

A campaign to convince Mattel to create a bald Barbie was launched on the net with the creation of a Facebook page.

The creators? Two moms are behind this initiative who have been confronted to cancer and chemotherapy.

The idea? To propose to little girls who are sick or who are close to someone who’s sick, a bald and reassuring female model in a doll. And we know that Barbie is beautiful no matter what. For now Mattel didn’t react. But a few weeks ago, the firm had been strongly criticized by associations for putting on a tattooed Barbie. The bald Barbie could also be a good way to regain their prestige. The two moms also ask to donate a part of the future profits to medical research. We "LIKE"!

How to keep your house clean in few minutes a day
Wednesday, 22 February 2012 00:00

Kitchen

Clear out and wipe down the sink (5 minutes). No piles of dirty dishes! Move them into the dishwasher, and wipe the sink with a sponge.

Wipe down countertops and stove (1 minute). Clean splatters and spills with a damp cloth or sponge and an all-purpose cleanser.

Wipe problem spots on the floor (2 minutes). You can save a full-floor mop for the weekend, but use the same cloth (once you’ve finished with the countertops) to quickly clean any spills or sticky spots, which will attract dirt and get more noticeable if left alone.

Fold or hang dish towels (30 seconds). Even if they’re clean, a jumble of dish towels on the counter can look messy. Take a few moments to fold or hang them.

Bathroom

Wipe out the sink (30 seconds). If you use a premoistened cloth to wipe your face, swipe the sink bowl and faucet handles with it, too. Or use a washcloth, paper towel, or a product like Windex Glass and Surface Wipes, which don’t leave streaks on chrome or mirror.

Clean splatters off the mirror (15 seconds). Got foamy toothpaste spray on the mirror? Do a quick swipe with the same cloth you used on the sink.

Wipe the toilet seat and rim (15 seconds). Same cloth! Just do the toilet last.

Swoosh the toilet bowl with a brush (15 seconds). If you see a ring, give it a quick scrub.

Squeegee the shower door (30 seconds). Wipe down glass doors to remove water droplets that can cause spotting. No squeegee? Use a dry towel.

Spray the shower and curtain liner with a shower mist (15 seconds). A quick spray with a daily cleanser will reduce buildup of mildew and soap scum.

Bedroom

Make your bed (2 minutes). Even a fluffy down comforter pulled up over messy sheets will look polished.

Fold or hang clothes and put away jewelry (4 minutes). Even better: Resist the urge to toss them somewhere in the first place! Put them away as you take them off.

Straighten out the night-table surface (30 seconds). Take last night’s water glass to the kitchen, stow your reading glasses in a drawer, and straighten books or magazines.

Living Room

Tidy the sofa (2 minutes). It’s likely the focus of the room, so neaten it. Fluff the pillows and fold the throws.

Pick up crumbs with a handheld vacuum (1 minute). Concentrate on surfaces in plain sight: sofa cushions, coffee table, and rugs in the middle of the room. Look for dust bunnies, too.

Wipe tables and spot-clean cabinets where you see fingerprints (1 minute). Use a microfiber cloth or a Swiffer cloth to pick up dust. If the surfaces are streaked or sticky, use a moist cloth.

Straighten coffee table books and magazines (2 minutes). Toss old newspapers and corral the remote controls into one place (a drawer, if possible).

Clear major clutter (5 minutes). Stash video games, toys, and anything else you might trip over.

The Indian Winter
Tuesday, 21 February 2012 00:00

An Amerindian wind blown on fashion this winter. The chef of  investigations? The still very hyped up French designer Isabel Marrant who placed this trend in the heart of her Autumn-Winter 2011 collection by mixing high white boots and ethnicos-casual printed knit sweaters. It is followed closely by a lot of labels, from the coolest to the most advanced, offering a winter wardrobe with this same thread as apache environment. And the very VIP always in the heart of trends could only succumb. The Californian Nicole Richie decline her Isabel Marrant slim by “calming” the it with a total black look. And to go upmarket and avoid the red skin effect, nothing like a good bunch of accessories: brand bag and butterfly glasses. The clue: we chose therefore, a strong piece around which we construct a catchy but easy going silhouette. We give privilege to the long sweaters, skirts with pop colors and accessories (bags, jewelry, belts) with an erroneously craft / handmade style because what we like because it's obviously this folklore history.

Face Gym
Monday, 20 February 2012 12:23

When we know the professionals gestures, we don’t need to burn out our savings on a collection of pots of face cream to show a smooth face and a slight silhouette. Demonstration.

Muscle your face
On the face, the muscles are directly attached to the skinyou’re you just need to stimulate them to show surface nicely rounded and smooth.
The small gesture? Start working on a dry skin. Put the palms of tour hands on your temples while your fingers are joined on the top of the skull as a helmet. Pull the skin of the forehead to the back by pressing down hard. Then put fingers at the back of the head and do the same. Finally repeat the movement but place the fingers at the nape of the neck. Then heat up a little bit of moisturizing cream on the palms, put them on the forehead, fingers towards the skull and lift the eyebrows up. Then slide the palms under the cheekbones (it fits perfectly) and lift by smoothing the skin at the temples. Finally put the palms under the chin and smooth the skin around the jaw and temples. If your work was good beware the aches.
The right pace? Every day by repeating each movement three times or once a week making it six times in a row.
The material? A classical moisturizing cream that will allow your hands sliding.

Lovers genetically programmed
Friday, 17 February 2012 00:00

Will we be, one day, able to find the man of our life through a test tube? Some scientists showed that when we meet someone who puts us butterflies in the stomach, it affects our genes. So here is a new idea: the compatible DNA or the dating DNA. Two geneticists Tamara Brown and Joelle Apter have created in Switzerland a company called "Gene Partner" and a test: a simple levy inside of the cheek compared to the one of your (future) partner and here you are, or not, confident about your love life. The test costs about 200 euros and love might be more than a coincidence...

Home-made Carpaccio recipe
Thursday, 16 February 2012 00:00

Ingredients

7 to 9 ounces  center-cut beef tenderloin

2 teaspoons  good-quality olive oil, plus more for the beef

Salt

2 ounces  arugula

Flaked sea salt and black pepper

1 lemon, plus 4 wedges for serving

2 ounces of  Parmigiano Reggiano, shaved into thin slices

2 teaspoons  truffle oil

Instructions
Wrap the beef in plastic wrap and tighten each end like a sausage so that the beef has a neat shape. Refrigerate for an hour before slicing. Chill the serving plates in the refrigerator too.
Just before slicing the beef, lay out the plates and put a drop or two of olive oil and a little salt on each one; this will give the beef a better depth of flavor and prevent it from sticking.
Trim off all the fat from the beef, then slice the meat as thinly as possible.
Lay four squares of plastic wrap on the work surface. Place an equal amount of sliced beef on each piece of plastic, positioning the slices so they do not overlap. Top with another sheet of plastic wrap, and press down to seal.
Using a rolling pin, gently tap the beef so that it spreads out and becomes wafer-thin and, if possible, about the same size as the plate you are going to serve it on.
Remove the top layer of plastic wrap and invert the carpaccio onto a plate. Peel off the other piece of wrap. Drizzle with a little olive oil, and use your fingers to spread the oil all over the meat (This prevents it from changing color and drying out).
In a bowl, dress the arugula with 2 teaspoon of olive oil, some pepper, and a few flakes of sea salt, mixing well. Add a little lemon juice to taste (it needs to be sharp but not enough to make you screw your eyes up). Scatter the dressed arugula over the plates of carpaccio, followed by the Parmigiano shavings. Drizzle with the truffle oil. Grind some more pepper over and serve each plate with a wedge of lemon.

Painting old furnitures
Wednesday, 15 February 2012 00:00

Vintage furniture is the perfect decoration for any retro house or room. As well, old wood furniture can perfectly suit any room or house as long as it is well taken care of. Though, after a while, the old wooden furniture may loss some of its colors, or why not, may get some defects, defects that might not be corrected without applying a proper painting.

But how to paint old wood furniture? In the next following lines, you will find out what exactly needs to be done in order to paint, without failing, old wooden furniture.

First of all, it is recommended to buy wood strippers and apply on each part of the furniture. If the furniture has multiple components and doors, then they should be carefully removed and each of them, as well, should get a treatment with some wood stripper. A special case is the case of the varnished old wood furniture: in this case, the wood strippers are no good. In their place, steel wool can easily be used, as it is more effective and recommended by most of the furniture manufacturers.

After you have completed the above operation, the entire furniture, each and every component, must be cleaned of dust. Therefore, remember to clean the wood pieces and inspect if there are any blemishes or any other damages. If there are blemishes, the wood strippers should be applied again, and also, the second dust cleaning will be mandatory as well.

Depending of the size of the furniture, you should pick the proper brushes. Usually, a 5 cm/2 inches brush should be enough for most of the furniture wooden parts. Carefully paint the pieces, as you do not want to leave any stripes or any paint blemishes. One more thing, though, before starting to actually paint: ensure that you will be working in a place where you can not make mess, and also, ensure that you have the proper color for your old wood furniture. You wouldn’t afford to miss that, would you?

Last, but not least, paint only by using long-extensive moves, as you do not want any blemishes on the surface of the wood furniture. It will look like hell and you won’t be satisfied. After you have completed the task, let the paint dry. Usually, it may take some time, especially for the old wood furniture. An finally, after everything is clear and dried, it’s time to ensemble everything at their place. Carefully do this task in order to not scratch anything. And yes, if you have completed all the above tasks correctly, then you have successfully painted an old wood piece of furniture on your own.

Lipmix lipstick
Friday, 10 February 2012 00:00

What? Lipmix of M.A.C

Do we love it? Yes.

Why? Because it is still rare to find a lipstick that has strong pigments (yes remember this disappointment you had putting this lipstick that you bought and who didn’t have the effect you were expecting) and that stays on for hours and hours.

Particularity? These tubes can be mixed with other colors to create your own custom color.

Do we adopt it? Right away... and you will love it.

Few ways to get rid of stress
Wednesday, 08 February 2012 00:00

Meditation
Meditation brings short-term stress relief as well as lasting stress management benefits. There are many different forms of meditation to try--each one is unique and brings its own appeal.

Yoga
Yoga incorporates breathing exercises, meditation, and light exercise. One session brings initial stress relief, and continued practice brings greater resilience to stress. It's one of the more potent stress relievers.

Breathing
Breathing exercises provide convenient and simple stress relief in that they can be used anytime, anywhere, and they work quickly.

Playing Games
Enjoying a good game with a group of friends, or playing something relaxing online can take your mind off of your stressors, and can lead to a more relaxed state. Games are stress relievers that work well because people enjoy them enough to use them regularly.

Sex
Within a healthy relationship, sex can be a fantastic stress reliever, as it incorporates several other stress relief ingredients--breathing, touch, social connection, and a few others--and brings a rush of endorphins and other beneficial chemicals with orgasm. It's another one of the more "fun" stress relievers that can also be quite effective.

Laughter
The physical act of laughing releases tension and brings positive physiological changes. Finding ways to work more laughter into your day can be an effective route to stress relief.

Music Therapy
Music can alter your physiology in ways that help you to relieve stress. It's an enjoyable, passive route to stress relief. Formal music therapy sessions can help with a variety of stress-related issues.

Take a Walk
Exercise is a fantastic stress reliever that can work in minutes. Taking a walk allows you to enjoy a change in scenery, which can get you into a different frame of mind, and brings the benefits of exercise as well. Learn about the other benefits of walking as a stress reliever.

Plant a Garden
Getting outside and enjoying the scenery is just one of the ways that gardening can contribute to stress relief. Read about the other stress reliever benefits of planting a garden.

Time Management
Honing your time management skills can allow you to minimize the stressors that you experience, and better manage the ones you can't avoid. When you are able to complete everything on your "to do" list without the stress of rushing or forgetting, your whole life feels easier.

Listen To Music
Finding a music therapist isn't the only way music can help as a stress reliever. Creating playlists for various moods (a cathartic mix for when you want to process feelings, an upbeat mix for when you need more energy, etc.) can help you to relieve stress passively, enjoyably, and conveniently.

Eat a Balanced Diet
A poor diet can bring greater reactivity toward stress. A healthy diet can bring greater physical and emotional wellness. Find some simple go-to meals and snacks, and feel less stressed in your daily life.

Enjoy Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy has proven benefits for stress relief--it can help you to become energized, more relaxed, or more present.

Reduce Caffeine Intake
Consuming caffeine too late in the day can affect sleep quality, which impacts stress levels. Consuming too much caffeine in general can make you more emotionally reactive to stress. Learn how much caffeine is too much.

Drink in Moderation
Speaking of knowing limits, maintaining careful limits with alcohol is particularly important. One glass of red wine at the end of the day can bring relaxation, but too much alcohol can obviously bring a host of other problems.

Don’t Procrastinate
Putting off a stressful or labor-intensive project can only increase the stress you experience. Learn how to stop procrastination can allow you to get done what you need to do, without the added stress of rushing for a deadline.

Drink Green Tea
Sitting with a glass of green tea and planning for the day ahead, or reflecting on the day behind (remember--decaf at night!) can provide you with a nice break and a taste of peace. You'll experience the health benefits of green tea as well.
